Feeling small when we compare ourselves with others is called “jealousy”.
The anger bursts out like a fire but jealousy is the fire burning deeply inside us that can tear our life apart.
Master kindly taught about the danger of jealousy lying within everyone’s mind.
“Every time we feel jealous, we do not know that it is destroying ourselves. Jealousy is so powerful that can destroy the world. The jealous mind ignites the fire that is burning deep down and longer than the anger. Fire of anger lasts shortly but fire of jealousy is grilling the mind as if it will never be extinguished.
“There are so many kind-hearted people who willing to help others but never purify their mind. When the fine impurities especially the jealousy that deeply buried in the mind is rising up, their mind could not resist its force.”
Lord Buddha taught about the awareness of three decadences: Decadence from violation of the precepts, from jealous mind and from stinginess. These are making all good deeds cultivated decline or else are completely gone.
Be mindful, reminding your mind every time jealousy arises… “Jealous mind should not be in us.” Mindfulness and consciousness mean having clear awareness. They will help ceasing you from doing bad deeds that hindering others from doing good deeds. “You are not my enemy; the blindness is yet the enemy…”
To overcome the jealous mind is to have empathy, the joy in observance of the happiness of others. One of the four Noble Sentiments that uplift the mind to higher level, which is better than destroying the goodness that has been accumulated for a long time with the poisonous jealousy.
